Meme Universe


This week in class we talked a lot about memes. Memes were started with a book named The SelfishGene that came out in 1976. Memes to me is what gave social media it’s spark. It also helped develop communication through text messaging and gifs. Meme’s are fun because they usually make fun of everyday things. One encounter I had with a meme was when I had to use a meme for a class assignment. The assignment required use to go on the internet, find a meme, and discuss how it is so funny or important. So a couple years ago Nick Young had a MTV cribs segment, and he was asked a question that was pretty dumb founded. He instantly looked back with a surprised/question face. That’s the best way to describe it. So now whenever someone asks a pointless question or just a question that someone wasn’t expecting this meme is used.

Due to social media profiles like: theshaderoom , balleralert , houseofhighlights , worldstar , information from across the globe gets brought to attention. Those profiles are all used to post sarcastic, educational, vulgar, and funny. I’ll give four examples of the different kinds of posts. Sarcasm, there is a guy named Lavar Ball that is the father of three future NBA superstars. A reporter once asked him if he could beat Michael Jordan in a game of 1 on 1 basketball. He said that he could. Shortly after a meme was made with Lavar Ball’s college stats, which were pretty bad. Educational, during black history month certain icons get magnified we then learn more about them. At that time pictures and information about the person are being posted. Vulgar, street fights are posted daily on social media because it is deemed as a form of entertainment. Funny, usually comedians have hilarious posts. My progress in this class has grown tremendously. Before the class started I didn’t know what to expect. I hadn’t had any friends take the course and even have the same teacher that I had. It was a learning experience. I have grown in the collaborating side because I now have a better of what collaborating is. Collaborating is understanding the fact that it takes more than one person to have success. Weather that’s someone guiding you, or even giving you little tips for you to do better with whatever that you’re doing. A form of collaborating is The University Of Arizona and the unity around the campus. Hello world, welcome to my first blog post ever! My role in collaborative human process is pretty unique I feel.  The role I play on my athletic football team is the quarterback. If you don’t know, the quarterback is the person in football who throws the ball. Since I was about seven years old I’ve held the quarterback responsibility. At times it is tough because of social media’s toll on our society. Being a quarterback you have to portray a certain image. To as other positions in football can honestly say anything on social media because their positions aren’t as leader sensitive. Being a quarterback you are automatically one the faces of the program/franchise. With that being said your social life is magnified. I’d like to think that I am a pretty engaged person at times on social media. I have a twitter account but do not use it because of the time consuming efforts.
