People Always Find Out


Due to social media profiles like: theshaderoom, balleralert, houseofhighlights, worldstar, information from across the globe gets brought to attention. Those profiles are all used to post sarcastic, educational, vulgar, and funny. I’ll give four examples of the different kinds of posts. Sarcasm, there is a guy named Lavar Ball that is the father of three future NBA superstars. A reporter once asked him if he could beat Michael Jordan in a game of 1 on 1 basketball. He said that he could. Shortly after a meme was made with Lavar Ball’s college stats, which were pretty bad. Educational, during black history month certain icons get magnified we then learn more about them. At that time pictures and information about the person are being posted. Vulgar, street fights are posted daily on social media because it is deemed as a form of entertainment. Funny, usually comedians have hilarious posts. For instance Mike Epps.

    This is an interesting post, Khalil! I actually follow the shade room on Instagram and see a lot of posts and I saw all the hype about about Lavar Ball and the nonsense that he has said. But really, he does it to attract attention to himself, his sons, and their brand. Majority of the time, he says outrageous things but it brings eyes and attention to the brand he is building. Which now he has made an immense amount of money off of. So in reality, websites like this that give him the attention only are helping him. Bad press is better than no press, as they say. Websites like these have spreadability.

This week in class we actually didn't have class. Our teacher told us that we didn't have to go to class all week, which is lovely. Although we didn't have to go to class we still have homework assignments due on a site called TopHat . Before this eSoc212 class I had never heard of TopHat . Now TopHat is an educational site used for education usage. TopHat subscription costs money which is why so many students complain about it. In my opinion for college student’s online books should be free. Year in and year out per school year students spend at least $700 for books. Now back to our teacher assigning us TopHat homework. The work was uniquely set us so that it would be due at the time that we would usually end class. It was pretty easy because all we had to do was read the reading and then answer the questions right after. Flickr Usage

In class today we watched a TED talk about Flikr.com and how anyone that has access to a tablet, phone, or laptop can use those pictures for your own usage. This is an interesting subject to me because plagiarism is a big factor in education. A lot of times when you have a project or assignment to complete that needs pictures, you search it up on the internet. More than none the pictures used are from sites like flikr.   If the picture says copyrights reserved, then you can’t use that picture. This situation is contradicting because if the picture can’t be used why is it on the internet. I’ve always have problems with understanding the reason behind that. However, I do understand that if I was to post a picture on the internet that was a unique picture I wouldn’t want anyone else to post it like it was theirs without putting my name on it. Wikipedia Living

Before this week I had never used  wikipedia  so in depth. On Thursday we were required to make a Wikipedia profile. I never knew that you could make a profile from Wikipedia. I always thought the you had to be licensed in order to have a say so on what is posted on Wikipedia. But that is not the case because I am not licensed and I have a profile. We also watched a video on who people picked their usernames. A lot of people used funny names and others just used their full name like I did. In addition to that, the main problem that I don't like is that anyone can go on Wikipedia and change profiles. Not too long ago I went on Wikipedia and looked up Kobe Bryant and it said that he wore number 33,24, and 8 for the Lakers .
